I’ll be honest. The first time I’d ever heard of Perth was 2 years ago when joining a new company and beginning work with a team of software developers there. It’s on the west coast of Australia with certainly less “press” than the gold coast (east coast) region. I’ve come to discover this gem of a city and what an amazing place it is!
Perth sits on a river and 20 minute drive to the ocean, with ferry’s running daily to the local town of Freemantle where you’ll find a cool mix and flavor of New Orlean “like” architecture and a great mix of local pubs and brews. The market shopping is one of my favorites to visit; always bringing home some local items for the family.
A 45 minute ferry ride just off the coast will bring you to Rottnest Island; home of the Quoka’s. The island has become famous with celebrities for their selfy pictures with the Quoka’s but the lack of cars and remote feeling of this island draws people from around the world.
